Bar Mitzvah Florida customized curriculum.

The Bar Mitzvah Florida curriculum is designed to provide each student a basic knowledge of Jewish beliefs, practice and values. Our goal is to provide you with a positive learning experience that will enable you to begin or continue with your Jewish education. Everyone starts from a different place and we will tailor the curriculum to meet your specific needs.

Core Curriculum

Required blessings and prayers:

Bar'chu - Call to worship
Sh'ma
Torah Blessings
Torah portion - 1 aliyah between 3 - 7 verses

Should the student wish to learn a Haftarah, the appropriate blessings will also be required.

Judaism

Basic Judaism 101 - What it means to be a Jew.
Jewish values/virtues
1. Mitzvot (good deeds) - what are they and why we do them
2. Tikkun Olam (repair of the world) - why it is our responsibility as Jews
3. Mitzvah (service) Project - applying our knowledge and doing a mitzvah
  project either related to the Torah portion or an area that has meaning to
  the student.

God/Spirituality - will be discussed as related to Judaism's core belief

Bar/Bat Mitzvah Service

Order of the prayer service - why we say certain prayers and what they mean
Family participation in an way that is positive and meaningful for the entire family
Student and family goals - why is this milestone important to the student and the family
D'var Torah - speech about the Torah portion and how it applies to the student's life and/or mitzvah project
