Bar Mitzvah Learning
As the parent of a child with High Functioning Autism, I am very
comfortable with the diverse learning styles that accompany a child with
special needs. Even neurotypical students have different methods of
learning, and special needs kids are no different. Some students, like
my son, are verbal, able to learn Hebrew and are virtually
indistinguishable from their peers. Others are non-verbal or have other
cognitive challenges that make a typical Jewish education more
difficult or impossible.
There are many ways in which more severely challenged special needs
students can still achieve this important milestone. Some kids like to
sing, some like to dance, and some like to draw. Jewish expression can
come in all these forms and we can tailor a learning experience to your
child's strength. If your child like to sing, then we'll make a CD to
which he can sing along. If she likes to draw, we will help them create
Jewish expression through art. If they are stimulated primarily
through movement, then we will encourage that expression through
movement.
Let us know how we can create a meaningful experience for your special needs child and your family. All things are possible with the right attitude, reasonable expectations, patience and love.
